Earth-sized planet around nearby star

Image
The newly discovered planet orbits Proxima Centauri every 11.2 days. Photo by: Ricardo Ramirez Proxima Centauri, the star closest to the Sun, has an Earth-sized planet orbiting it at the right distance for liquid water to exist. The discovery, reported today in Nature1, fulfils a longstanding dream of science-fiction writers — a potentially habitable world that is close enough for humans to send their first interstellar spacecraft. “The search for life starts now,” says Guillem Anglada-Escudé, an astronomer at Queen Mary University of London and leader of the team that made the discovery. Humanity’s first chance to explore this nearby world may come from the recently announced Breakthrough Starshot initiative, which plans to build fleets of tiny laser-propelled interstellar probes in the coming decades. Travelling at 20% of the speed of light, they would take about 20 years to cover the 1.3 parsecs from Earth to Proxima Centauri. Proxima’s planet is at least 1.3 times the

Google Duo

Image
Google's new app,  Duo , is a simple video-calling service that's available  for Android  and iOS today. Alongside the upcoming  messaging app Allo , it's one of two communication apps Google announced earlier this year at its  I/O conference , and one of  four  altogether from the company. In a way, it's Google's answer to Apple's FaceTime, and it makes one-to-one calling between  Android phones, and from Android to iPhone, very simple. Though both parties have to download the app to begin chatting (unlike FaceTime, which is baked into the dialer of compatible iPhones), it's still an intuitive app to use. And while Android users will likely enjoy using Duo to video-call all their friends, iPhone owners won't find it compelling enough to ring up fellow iPhone users. However, it may certainly become their go-to app when calling up a buddy who uses Android. With that said, here are its main highlights: You'll see previews with Knock Knock

Marvel Phase 4

Image
Right after we are done with Marvel Phase 3 we get to enter Marvel Phase 4, which we believe would be completely different from what we’ve seen so far. New characters would be introduced, few old characters would be killed off and with Phase 3 ending with Avengers defeating Thanos there wouldn’t be any bigger bad baddie to fight against. This is where MCU plans to do a complete game changer, however, here’s our take on Marvel Phase 4 and what we would like to see: Hulk It’s been a while since we last saw a solo Hulk movie after Phase 1 in 2008. Phase 3 would show Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok and in Infinity War I & II, but what happens to Hulk after that? One could do a whole lot of stuff with Hulk story; they can show his extended family or bring back red Hulk or she Hulk. Something that would be extremely new to Hulk. Namor With Marvel now owning complete rights to Namor, a movie in Phase 4 would be appropriate. Though Namor has always been an underrated character, his character u

Bridge collapses on Mumbai-Goa highway

Image
A major bridge on the Mumbai-Goa national highway collapsed at around 2 A.M. today as rains continue to strike Maharashtra and brings a complete halt to traffic. The reason behind the collapse is not clear but it is likely to have been caused by the overflowing of Savitri river in Mahabaleshwar. However, No casualties have been confirmed so far but an eyewitness has claimed that two cars were washed away. According to the Raigad District Collector, 2 state buses that left Ratnagiri are missing. NDRF teams have been deployed at the site and also confirms that one way traffic has now resumed on the new bridge. In a meantime, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said that there were 2 parallel bridges, one is new and one constructed during British era. The old one got collapsed. The minister also added that primary reason seems to be high pressure caused due to flooding of river Savitri due to heavy rains in catchment of Mahabaleshwar. “The bridge which collapsed
